Every summer for the last three years Wisbech Reads has held a reading festival during the summer term. The festival invites year 1 children to come into Wisbech and join in with a number of exciting activites. A workshop with a published author/illustrator, a visit to the library to learn how to take out a book, a visit to the museum to learn more about the collections, hear stories and do a craft actvity, and a visit to the castle to create poems.
The children all receive a Discover Arts Award at the end of the day for taking part in so many different and exciting arts activities.
Due to the restrictions caused by Covid-19, the Summer Reading Festival 2020 will be a virtual festival.
During June, Year 1 children in participating schools will receive a festival pack containing "The Music Man's Songbook" by local author, Jon Lawrence, and an activity booklet produced by Wisbech Reads. Other activities are available on-line - see the links below.
Children who successfully complete the activities will receive a Discover Arts Award Certificate.
Wisbech Reads are grateful to the following for funding the Summer Reading Festival 2020: The Library Presents; The High Sheriff's Fund; Wisbech Town Council.
